Through a grant provided to HFI by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to replicate the HealthConnectOne Community-Based Doula program model, and in collaboration with the Houston Community College Community Health Worker Certification Program, Healthy Family Initiatives’ four Community Health Worker/Doula trainees received their graduation certificates from Houston Community College at a ceremony held at the HCC Coleman Campus on May 12th, 2011. This semester’s coursework, which also focused on breast health, was co-sponsored by the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
Our new graduates (seated in photo below) plan to return to their communities in Houston to practice their skills. Organizations interested in hiring the dually trained women should contact HFI for more information.
Members of the community interested in following in the footsteps of these talented ladies can also learn more about how to become a Community Health Worker/Doula by contacting Marisa Pena-Alfaro at 713-270-8849.
