Healthy Family Initiatives hosted a field practicum student for the 2011 spring semester in partnership with the Rice University Center for the Study of Women, Gender and Sexuality. The mission of the Center, which was initiated at Rice in July of 2006, is to foster interdisciplinary research and teaching in the history, representation, and social situation of women. Four research clusters were undertaken this year: Gender, Health and Human Well-being; Gender and Urban Life; Women and Global Poverty; and Sex, Race, and Nation.
HFI proposed a study project regarding a retrospective look at outcomes on our Healthy Families Program, and senior Rice Student, Emily Larimer, chose to work on this with us for the spring semester. In the past, studies jointly undertaken in collaboration with local non-profit organizations have produced usable and applicable information for our community and beyond.
At a reception held at the University on May 19, 2011, and attended by HFI CEO Marianne Ehrlich, students presented their work. HFI is proud to have participated in this endeavor and looks forward to continuing the research for which our student, Emily, has established the groundwork.
