Building Strong Families Houston

Supporting the foundation of family

A strong relationship between parents helps build a sound foundation for a child’s healthy development. This fact has encouraged our nation’s leadership to develop policy strategies focused on family and marriage stabilization. Our Building Strong Families Houston pilot program is one of seven demonstration programs nationwide. Its outcomes will determine the effectiveness of models designed to improve the relationships of low-income, unmarried couples and the development of their children. The program incorporates the “Love’s Cradle” curriculum and is designed for couples expecting a baby or who recently welcomed a newborn. In addition to core group work, our family coordinators provide home visitation for each couple.

Goals of Building Strong Families Houston

  • Improved communication between parents
  • Better parenting skills
  • Enhanced employment skills
  • Family budget and stress management

Building Strong Families Texas is a collaboration of the Administration for Children and Families, the Texas Attorney General’s Office, the Texas Health and Human Services Commission, Mathematica Policy Research, Inc., Healthy Family Initiatives, and our implementation partner, Healthy Families San Angelo.
